Five Fresh Decor Looks for Fall

Pumpkins and hay bales are always a welcome sight after the heat of summer, but these tried and true decoration pieces may make your home blend in more than stand out.

If you are wanting to freshen up your fall look without getting too far from favorites, there are several different colors, decor ideas and patterns to choose from that are trending for this fall that will have you feeling cozy without being too outdated. See below for some great tips.

Shop local. Skip the trip to your chain craft store in favor of finding artisan pieces that are one of a kind, and will make a unique addition to your home. Some ideas on how to incorporate these pieces are in your light fixtures, vases, sculptures or dinnerware. You'll be supporting a local artist while putting money back into your community.

Add some luxury with velvet. Velvet is the “it” material for 2018, covering everything from sofas to window drapings. Look for something in a deep purple, or this year’s color of the year - ultraviolet. Pair it with a gallery wall of gorgeous vintage oval picture frames or antique glass picture frames for a formal look that will help you relax after a hectic day.

Add some industrialism. Farm tables may have been all of the rage last year, but this year's looks are all about the clean, sharp lines of industrial pieces such as concrete tables. Contrast this hardened look by adding softer elements to make the room seem cozy and not cold, such as soft furniture, padded chairs and bright dinnerware. The best way to get your hands on these materials without breaking the bank is to use recycled materials, or leftover pieces from the construction site down the road.

Add a pop of sunshine with bright yellow. While yellow may have been seen as too bold in the past trends of more muted tones, this year yellow will be all over the designs. The brighter, the better is what designers are saying, and adding a statement piece such as a bright yellow sofa will make it become a conversation piece you'll want to keep talking about. Pair it with rich reds and burnt oranges to really bring out the fall vibes, and add in a few natural elements such as a wood oval frame mirror and some fresh flowers.

Bring out those vintage pieces. If you have an old geometric rug rolled away in the attic gathering dust, now is the time to clean it and display it. Geometric shapes, rich tones and the use of velvet are bringing about some serious 1970s vibes in decor this year, and the funkier, the better. Add some abstract art pieces or far-out light fixtures to make your vintage area feel like a time machine you'll love to travel in.
