Five Little Fall Touches to Help Stage Your Home

While autumn has never been traditionally the best time to put a home on the market, sometimes it’s a necessary evil to list your home as soon as the first leaves begin to fall.

With fewer buyers, it can be hard to get a nibble, let alone a big bite offer. You need to pull out all of the stops, including staging your home to seem cozy and inviting. For some great tips on how to incorporate the sweater weather season into your decor, see below.

Add sprigs of fall foliage. Although you don’t want to overdo it, a few vases of large fall blooms and leaves can add the perfect pop of color to your fall decor. Natural elements are always in style, so use large orange, red and yellow blooms, cotton sprigs and mid-change leaves in a simple vase that won’t take away from their beauty.

Bring in the light. With the days getting shorter, it’s likely any potential buyers will be viewing your home during the twilight hours after their long workdays. It’s important to showcase your home in the best light possible, so amp up the lamps and mirrors that can reflect the light into other areas.

Pair a fresh coat of paint with a gorgeous gallery wall. You will more than likely have to do a few little updates, and one of the easiest ways to stage is to paint a few walls. You will want to do something neutral, but warm, so choose from a palette of creams and tans. Another trick of staging is to make it easy for the potential new owners to picture themselves in the space, so skip the personal photos of family and instead hang a gorgeous gallery wall of autumn art. Use gold oval picture frames in keeping with the warm tones, or vintage oval frames for a more luxurious look.

Emphasize comfort. When looking for a home during the chilly months, home buyers will want to feel a sense of comfort when entering the house. Keep the heat up on chilly days, but don't overdo it. Have some fresh cookies made for open houses, and keep gorgeous throws on every chair and sofa. You want the house to feel warm, inviting and like it could be the perfect spot to curl up by the fireplace and watch the game.

Speaking of fireplaces, make it a focal point. If you are fortunate enough to have a working fireplace in your home, now is the season to really play up its use. Decorate the mantel with pumpkins and leaf garlands, and place gold accented fireplace poker set near the hearth. Be sure to give it a good cleaning, and have a delicious smelling candle or cinnamon broom (far enough away not to catch fire!) adding a slight scent to the air with the flames.
